When and Where Did Water Features Originate?

The translation of hundreds of classical Greek documents into Latin was commissioned by the scholarly Pope Nicholas V who led the Church in Rome from 1397 till 1455. He undertook the beautification of Rome to make it into the model capital of the Christian world. Reconstruction of the Acqua Vergine, a desolate Roman aqueduct which had carried fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, began in 1453 at the bidding of the Pope. A mostra, a monumental commemorative fountain constructed by ancient Romans to mark the point of entry of an aqueduct, was a practice which was revived by Nicholas V. The present-day location of the Trevi Fountain was previously occupied by a wall fountain commissioned by the Pope and constructed by the architect Leon Battista Alberti. Adjustments and extensions, included in the repaired aqueduct, eventually supplied the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water supply.Various Construction Materials Large Outdoor Fountains 076390034910305.jpg

The Various Construction Materials of Large Outdoor Fountains

Most contemporary garden fountains come in metal, although many other types exist. Metals tend to create clean lines and unique sculptural accents and can fit almost any style or budget. Your landscape should complement the style of your home.

A popular choice today is copper, and it is used in the designing of many sculptural garden fountains. Copper is appropriate for many fountain styles, including tabletop and cascade water fountains, and can be placed either inside or outside - making it a great choice. Copper is also versatile enough that you can select a range of styles for your fountain, from contemporary to whimsical.

Brass water fountains are also common, though they tend to have a more conventional look than copper ones. Even though they are a bit old-fashioned, brass fountains are quite popular because they often include interesting artwork.

Perhaps the most cutting-edge of all metals is stainless steel. If you select a cutting-edge steel design, both the value and tranquility of your garden will get a nice boost. As with any type of fountain, they are available in many sizes.

Fiberglass fountains are widespread because they look similar to metal but are more affordable and much less cumbersome to move around. Keeping a fiberglass water fountain clean and working correctly is quite effortless, another aspect consumers like.
